Livestock veterinarians are experiencing a meaningful shift in daily work as AI-driven monitoring and decision-support tools become embedded in larger commercial operations. Routine surveillance—herd walkthroughs, basic health monitoring, alert triage, and standardized documentation—is increasingly handled by continuous AI systems, camera networks, and wearables. This reshapes the role toward exception handling, clinical judgment on complex cases, and strategic farm-level decision-making. Over the next 36 months, AI will automate a growing share of routine monitoring and reporting, particularly in larger, more digitalized farms. However, physical examinations, diagnosis in multi-cause cases, treatment judgment under field constraints, and the human accountability required by regulation will remain firmly in the veterinarian's domain. Adoption remains uneven due to infrastructure limits, data quality, connectivity, and the skills gap in interpreting AI outputs. The role is redesigning rather than disappearing.
